You don't need perfect credit to buy a home.

In some cases, you don't need a credit score at all, and most buyers have no idea that's even possible.

They assume they need a score of 700+ before they can even have the conversation. That assumption is exactly what keeps them renting longer than they have to.

Here's what matters:
- The loan program you choose

VA, USDA, and FHA exist for a reason. They're designed to be flexible, and some allow lenders to evaluate your full financial picture rather than relying on a number alone.
- Your payment history

No credit cards? Not a dealbreaker. Lenders can work with what you do have: rent history, utilities, car insurance, and phone bills. The real question is simple: do you consistently pay what you owe?
- How quickly can you build a score

If you're starting from zero, you're closer than you think. A secured credit card or being added as an authorized user can get you a score faster than most people expect.
- The lender you work with

This is where most people go wrong. Not every lender knows how to structure a loan without traditional credit. The right one finds a way forward. The wrong one ends the conversation before it starts.
- Having a plan for cash
