Sometimes it seems hard to believe that my mom and dad were both born abroad and came to this land as small children because their fearless parents saw a bright, shining light in the distance and crossed continents to hold it in their hands. Since then, their incredible families have prospered - and contributed to a prospering nation - in so many ways, producing doctors, psychologists, lawyers, college professors and secondary educators, authors, poets, journalists, actors, singers, artists, filmmakers, playwrights, Oscar, Pulitzer and Bancroft Award nominees and winners, fashion designers and Seventh Avenue dress manufacturers and Wall Streeters and Realtors - and I could go on.

Here because of the Brave and the Free welcomed them and fought for, and with some of them in ensuing wars.

The Super Essex Conference (SEC) Independence Division championship went to the dynamos at local Bloomfield High School. Great going, team! Love having leaders in our midst.

Housing Market Tracker data showed stronger demand and supply last week. Pending sales rose, new listings reached 83,395 and inventory climbed to 765,048, with mortgage spreads at 1.93%. So not surprising that the Watchung Booksellers at Watchung Plaza has been named the best bookstore in the US. Family ownership, support of authors, encouragement of young readers (with their own storefront now down the block) and so much more support of reading, let alone of books than the average bookstore, has continually shined a light on this great place - and now it becomes a known to the greater public as what a bookstore should be.
