Turning 65 in Alabama can come with some important property tax benefits—but it doesn’t automatically mean you stop paying property taxes.

There are actually several exemptions you may qualify for, including an exemption from the state portion of your property tax. And Jefferson County homeowners may have an additional benefit.

If you’re 65+, or have parents who are, this is worth checking into with the Tax Assessor’s office.

I give sellers advice every day about getting their homes ready to sell.

Declutter. Pack things away. Let buyers see the SPACE but not the STUFF.

And then there’s my garage. 😂

Turns out, knowing what you should do and actually doing it are two very different things!

But the advice still stands: too much clutter can make even a great space feel smaller and leave buyers wondering if there’s enough storage.

As the tax year comes to an end, make sure you’ve filed your homestead exemption if you bought a home this year! Otherwise, your taxes can double! Some closing attorneys will file your homestead exemption for you, but you do need to make sure it gets filed! If you have any questions, feel free to call me!
