When two real estate giants battle over who gets to show private listings, every buyer and seller in the Chicago area feels the impact. 🏡

The friction between Zillow and Midwest Real Estate Data started as a debate about how private Compass listings should appear online, but it quickly turned into a much bigger fight, one about who sets the rules for how properties are marketed, how transparent those rules should be, and how buyers and sellers access up-to-date listings.

What makes this dispute so important is what it signals for the future. The outcome could set a new standard for how private listings are handled and who gets to decide how much information buyers and sellers see on the most-used real estate sites. For the Chicago area and beyond, clarity and transparency in listing practices have never mattered more, especially with so many relying on major portals for a real-time snapshot of what’s actually on the market.

After extensive review, discussion, and consideration, Keller Williams offices entered into a temporary agreement with Zillow that will allow our agents’ listings to continue syndicating to Zillow and maintain visibility for consumers.
