I BELIEVE in the power of owning real estate. I believe it CAN be a wealth building tool. But I keep having the same conversation with people who are trying to buy their first investment property. They're running numbers on best case scenarios and accepting returns that are less than more passive avenues. Depending on your investment goals, the right duplex may be your best choice! But the wrong duplex can be an anchor that slows your investing journey down.

In just over two weeks, Wichita will have the opportunity to support our public schools and pass a bond that does so much to the physical spaces that our children learn in. We haven't passed a bond for USD 259 in 18 years. Meanwhile, every suburban district around us has. Our enrollment numbers are declining and outside of Haysville, every other suburban district is growing. So as we vote yes to pass a 20 year bond, we must also hold Wichita Public Schools accountable to the real reason behind our shrinking numbers. That's not due to HVAC. That's not due to our outstanding school staff. It's due to something much larger and much harder to measure... I hope you watch my full breakdown on YouTube at Rooted In Wichita before voting. Our children depend on the adults in our community to have productive conversations around not only this bond but also the policies that dictate the allowable behavior in our buildings. I've helped several investors buy a duplex this year - some to house hack and some to simply invest. Plus, I personally own a duplex. So am I a hypocrite for telling you not to buy a duplex? I guess you'll have to watch the full video on YouTube and let me know your thoughts!

I can't think of a reasonable argument against question 1 on November 3rd. This should be the easiest "yes" that Wichita voters have had in years. What are your thoughts? Where do you stand?

I spent nearly a decade inside Wichita Public Schools at three different buildings working with over 300 different staff members. Our community is blessed with some of the hardest working people we could ask for. They prevail regardless of the resources or building conditions. But that doesn't mean our students and staff don't deserve and desperately need this bond to pass. This is our duty to support the physical spaces that they create the magic in.
