Norfolk & Luna by Forme

Two buildings on Goodwin Terrace, conceived as a pair. Luna carries the firmer line and the deeper tone, while Norfolk is the softer counterpart. What binds them sits in the detail, above all the tapered slab edge that gives each its fine, layered profile. Together they set the standard for residential design on the Gold Coast and across South East Queensland.

Luna by Forme

One residence per floor, each opening to the ocean on Goodwin Terrace. Seven full-floor homes and a dual-level penthouse, where veined stone and pale joinery are kept quiet so the coastline can lead. From the kitchen, the Burleigh surf rolls in just across the road, close enough to read the waves before the morning swim.

Luna by Forme

The first residential building in Australia wrapped in scalloped, faceted glass. Each pane is folded into a shallow scallop, so the facade catches the light off the water differently through the day. The idea has been imitated since, though the original remains the one others are measured against.

Every residence faces north, over the Pacific Ocean and up the coastline to Surfers Paradise. The interiors are restrained on purpose, with pale timber, soft stone tones and the Norfolk pines framed through the glass.

Norfolk by Forme

Much imitated. Still the original.

The form references the inner workings of the Norfolk pines that line the Burleigh foreshore. As the pine cone protects its seeds from bad weather and opens in ideal conditions, overlapping balconies shade the ones below, and sliding screens close for privacy or open to the sun and the ocean.

The silhouette has been borrowed many times since. It was only ever built once.
