At 623 Collins Street, development is approached as a long-term responsibility.

Set within one of Melbourne’s most significant heritage sites, the project demands a level of care, experience, and discipline that extends beyond design alone. It is a considered response to place - where preservation and progress are resolved with intent.

A considered morning of design, culture and conversation inside the 623 Collins Display Suite.

As part of Melbourne Design Week, Sterling Global welcomed Melbourne’s architecture and design community for an intimate discussion with Fiona Lynch Office and Plus Studio, exploring the thinking shaping one of the CBD’s major heritage-led developments.

Set within the 623 Collins Street Display Suite and moderated by Jan Henderson from Indesign, the conversation considered materiality, craft, proportion and restraint and how the former State Savings Bank of Victoria is being reimagined for modern city living.

Through collaboration between architecture and interiors, the project continues to build a dialogue between heritage and contemporary design, creating continuity between old and new.

As Melbourne’s CBD continues to evolve, the role of new development becomes increasingly important.

We asked Ian Briggs, Director at Plus Studio, how 623 Collins Street is positioned within the future of the city - and what it contributes to the next chapter of Collins Street.

Looking beyond the present, toward lasting impact.

More than a century of craftsmanship, shaped by precision and purpose.

Founded in Zug, Switzerland, in 1913, V-ZUG's evolution from a galvanising company to a globally recognised appliance brand reflects a longstanding commitment to performance, sustainability, and enduring quality.

These principles align closely with Sterling Global’s vision for 623 Collins Street — a project grounded in considered design, craftsmanship, and a lasting approach to modern living.

Through partnerships with brands that share this philosophy, the broader narrative surrounding 623 Collins Street continues to take shape, one defined by integrity, collaboration, and a shared standard of excellence.

At 623 Collins Street, the meeting of heritage and contemporary form is carefully resolved, where the historic façade is not simply preserved, but reinterpreted through a new architectural expression above.

We asked Ian Briggs, Director at Plus Studio, which design details best capture this relationship between old and new.

A conversation shaped by contrast, continuity, and intent.
