We were honoured to be invited by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to present at their Annual Engineering Meeting alongside industry professionals from across Ontario.

Our presentation, Survey Data Capture Methods for Hydraulic Analysis, showcased how IBW Surveyors supports engineering, environmental, and infrastructure projects through advanced survey technologies, including hydrographic surveying, sonar, unmanned surface vessels (USVs), LiDAR, drone mapping, and reality capture solutions.

Following the presentation, attendees joined us at a nearby hydraulic assessment project where our team conducted a live demonstration of our bathymetric USV and sonar equipment. The field demonstration provided an opportunity to showcase real-world hydrographic data collection methods and how these technologies support hydraulic analysis, infrastructure assessments, and water resource projects.

We are grateful to MNR for the invitation and the opportunity to share knowledge, collaborate with industry peers, and demonstrate the innovative technologies helping shape the future of geomatics and engineering.

From leading Ertl Surveyors through years of growth and innovation to helping shape the future alongside IBW Surveyors, Larry’s impact on our team, our clients, and the industry as a whole will be felt for generations.

Larry’s leadership, knowledge, and character have left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to work with him. While retirement marks the end of an incredible chapter, the legacy he built will continue to guide us forward at IBW Surveyors.

Cement Production Plant Infrastructure Survey

IBW Surveyors recently supported the construction of a new carbon capture and utilization facility in Mississauga, a project integrating advanced clean technology into an active industrial plant environment.

Due to ongoing operations and tight construction tolerances, maintaining reliable survey control throughout each phase of construction was critical. Our team provided a layout for concrete foundations, structural steel, anchor bolts, and embedded components required for the installation of specialized process equipment.

Using Trimble robotic total stations and digital leveling workflows, we carried out continuous verification to ensure all elements aligned with design specifications as construction progressed.

Projects like this demonstrate how accurate construction surveying helps keep complex industrial infrastructure projects moving safely and efficiently from the ground up.

Topographic Road Survey – 9 km Corridor

We recently completed a 9 km topographic road survey to support a power infrastructure upgrade in Milton.

With tight timelines and limited access along the corridor, we used a combination of UAV LiDAR (DJI Matrice 350 RTK) and conventional survey methods to efficiently capture accurate data across the full extent of the project.

LiDAR data was processed using DJI Terra, with final adjustments, QA/QC, and deliverables completed in Trimble Business Center. Ground verification played a key role in confirming accuracy where it mattered most.

This approach allowed us to keep the job moving without compromising quality or site coordination.

Monitoring what you can’t see is just as important as what you can.

For the Egan Avenue project in Toronto, our team closely monitored building settlement during heavy infrastructure work. With excavation happening just meters away from existing homes, even the smallest ground movement could have a significant impact.

Using high-precision total stations, we had the ability to track subtle changes in real time ensuring safety, protecting nearby properties, and giving stakeholders confidence throughout the construction process.

From early-stage analysis to post-construction verification, this project highlights how data-driven monitoring plays a critical role in modern infrastructure development.

Precision matters. 🚇 For the Ontario Line's Lakeshore East Joint Corridor, multiple construction contracts meant a high risk of coordinate misalignment at interface points. That’s where we came in.

IBW Surveyors was retained to establish a Primary Geodetic Control Network, a 22-station high-precision framework that serves as the foundation for all survey, engineering, and construction activities on this segment.

By combining GNSS observations with high-precision terrestrial measurements and digital leveling, we didn't just meet the standards for Survey Control in Transit Corridors, we exceeded them. We're ensuring seamless integration and reliable alignment across the entire project.
