Here's something I think we need to stop assuming about downsizing.

It doesn't necessarily mean moving into a tiny condo. For some people, downsizing means fewer bedrooms but a great backyard. For someone else, it means leaving a large property for a bungalow where everything is on one level.

It could mean less maintenance. Less yard work. Fewer stairs. Being closer to family. Or simply owning a home that fits the way you live now, instead of the way you lived 20 years ago.

I've talked to people who know their current house is more than they need, but hesitate because they don't know what the alternative looks like.

That's actually a good place to start.

You don't need to decide you're moving.
Start by figuring out what you'd want your next chapter to look like.

Happy Thanksgiving!

After many years of living and working in this community, I’m still grateful for the same things — family, friends, good neighbours and the people I’ve met along the way.

Real estate has introduced me to a lot of people over the years. Some became repeat clients. Some referred their kids or their parents to me. And quite a few simply became friends.

That’s something I never take for granted.

However you're spending today, I hope there's good food, lots of laughs and people you enjoy sharing the table with.

Fire Prevention Week in Caledon

We spend a lot of time talking about what makes a house look good.
This week is a good reminder to think about what makes it safe.

The Town of Caledon’s Fire Prevention Week proclamation puts a special focus on kitchen fires and cooking safety.

A few simple habits can make a big difference:
🔥 Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove
🔥 Keep a lid nearby while cooking
🔥 Keep kids at least three feet away from the stove and other hot surfaces
🔥 Stay nearby and watch what you heat
🔥 Set a timer so cooking doesn’t get forgotten
🔥 Make sure your family has a fire escape plan and has actually practised it

And while you're at it, test those smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
When was the last time your family practised getting out of the house in an emergency?

It's one of those things we hope we'll never need, but being prepared matters.

Here's a question I've been thinking about.

At what point does a new house actually start feeling like your home?

• Is it when you get the keys?
• When the boxes are finally unpacked?
• The first family dinner?
• The first Christmas?
• When you meet the neighbours?

Or maybe it's that first quiet Sunday morning when you're sitting there with a coffee and suddenly realize… Yep. This feels like home.

Real estate is about houses, but home is something completely different.

Little home bakeries and roadside finds tucked throughout the countryside, where you can stop by and support someone right here in our community.

Sour Dough Sensations at 19191 St. Andrews is one of those local gems.

There’s something pretty special about supporting local bakers, makers and small businesses. They’re part of what gives Caledon its character.

As a local Realtor, I love sharing the places, people and little discoveries that make this area such a great place to call home.

People remember how you made them feel long after they remember the details of the deal.

Of course, negotiating a good price matters. Knowing the market matters. Getting the paperwork right definitely matters.

But buying or selling a home is personal.

People remember who answered the phone when they were worried. Who explained something one more time. Who told them the truth when it wasn't necessarily what they wanted to hear. And who helped make a stressful situation feel a little more manageable.

Some of my favourite relationships today started with a For Sale sign or a showing years ago.

That's probably the part of this business I appreciate more now than I did when I started.

This week I'm shining the spotlight on NobleToyz right here in Bolton.

This isn't your typical big-box toy aisle. You'll find toys, board games, collectibles, die-cast models and plenty of things that might have the adults browsing just as long as the kids. 😂

One of the reasons I like doing these local spotlights is simple: local businesses are part of what gives a community its personality.

So whether you've lived in Bolton for years or you're relatively new to the area, get out and discover some of the businesses in your own backyard.

The cooler weather is here, which means there are a few jobs around the house worth tackling before we're dealing with cold mornings, falling leaves and eventually... you know what. ❄️😂

A few things I'd put on the fall list:

🍂 Clean out the gutters and make sure downspouts are draining away from the house.
🔥 Have the furnace checked and replace the filter.
🚰 Shut off and drain outdoor water lines when temperatures start dropping.
🪟 Check windows and doors for drafts and worn weatherstripping.
🏠 Take a quick look at the roof for missing or damaged shingles.
🌳 Trim branches that are getting too close to the house.

None of these jobs are particularly exciting, but they're a lot more enjoyable in September than November!

Caledon Culture Days runs from September 18 to October 4, with 16 days celebrating local arts, culture, heritage and creativity throughout our community.
