Some stories stay with us for life. ✨

Reading can be one of life’s simple pleasures — a chance to revisit familiar stories, reflect on memories, and connect through conversation with friends and neighbours.

Some books become tied to a particular time in our lives. For example, for many readers, the 1960s and ’70s brought stories that were read, shared, discussed, and remembered for years to come.

A few familiar titles from those decades include "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "Love Story" by Erich Segal, "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, "The Thorn Birds" by Colleen McCullough, and "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou.

Do any of these bring back a memory? We’d love to hear which books stayed with you.

Staying socially connected becomes one of the most important things we can do as we get older.

Friendships, shared activities, and being part of a community have all been linked to better mental health, sharper memory, and a longer, healthier life.

The little moments — a coffee with a neighbour, an afternoon activity, a familiar routine — matter more than we often realise.

Happy Victoria Day!

May long weekend has a way of feeling like a turning point — the days are longer, the weather is warming up, and there's a little more reason to get outside and enjoy it.

Wishing everyone a restful and joyful day!✨

Spring is here, and so is allergy season. While common this time of year, seasonal allergies are a real source of discomfort — and with one in four Canadians experiencing environmental allergies, it's worth being prepared.

Small adjustments to daily habits can make a meaningful difference. Here are a few natural ways to help reduce exposure and manage symptoms:

✔ Limit time outdoors during peak pollen hours — early morning and dry, breezy afternoons

✔ Check pollen levels before heading out — websites like The Weather Network are a handy resource

✔ Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from airborne pollen, and cover your hair with a hat on windy days

✔ Keep windows closed and use an air purifier to improve indoor air quality

✔ Wash your hands and face frequently, especially after walking outside, gardening, or petting animals

A few consistent habits can go a long way toward keeping symptoms under control, staying comfortable, and truly enjoying everything spring has to offer.

Spring is in full bloom on Vancouver Island, and the Tulip Fest at Coastal Black Estate Winery in the Comox Valley is one of the nicest ways to take it all in this month.

Over 350,000 hand-planted tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils, newborn animals, a hay bale maze, and stone oven pizza on the patio with a glass of wine or cider — open open Thursdays through Mondays, from 10am to 4pm from April 24 to May 10.

A lovely outing for residents and their families this spring. 🌷
