Heads up if you're riding an e-scooter around town 👀

According to 103.7 Play, the RMWB, RCMP, and municipal bylaw officers are stepping up enforcement of the region's e-scooter ban.

While e-scooters in public spaces have already been prohibited, officials are now issuing more tickets and impounding more scooters.

The fine for riding an e-scooter on public roads, sidewalks, parks, or trails is $500.

If you're looking for an alternative, e-bikes are still permitted under Alberta law, provided they meet the requirements:

• Maximum motor output of 500 watts
• Motor assistance must cut off at 32 km/h
• Must have fully operable pedals
• Riders must be at least 12 years old
• Helmets are mandatory for all riders
• Riders must follow the same traffic laws as other vehicles

E-scooters can still be used on private property.
