If your furnace has a filter on the front, it likely means there is no return air ducts. This is common in mobile homes and sometimes in condos. This makes the gap under every door in your home important because that’s where you return air is coming from.

Your AC condenser unit releases heat carried by the refrigerant in the coils. Dirt or debris blocking its grille limits airflow, making it harder to release that heat and reducing efficiency.

A gas water heater shouldn’t share air with a bedroom through a louvred door. If it backdrafts, carbon monoxide could enter the sleeping area. The enclosure may require a solid door and its own combustion-air intake from outside.

Pointing your bathroom fan duct toward a soffit vent does not exhaust it outdoors. Moisture still enters the attic, increasing the risk of mould and wood rot. The duct must connect directly to an exterior vent.

Missing insulation on service entrance wires is a serious hazard. These wires carry full utility power and are not protected by the home’s main breaker. Contact with the metal service mast, ladder, tools or a person could cause severe arcing, electrocution or fire.
