Mississauga offers FREE, pre-designed garden suite plans for homeowners. There are two options: a 430-square-foot studio and a 600-square-foot one-bedroom suite, both with a kitchen and bathroom. Think rental income, a home for aging parents, or a place for adult children to live independently.

These plans can save you thousands in design costs, and the City has introduced incentives to help make additional housing more affordable.

Of course, not every property qualifies, and you'll still need the appropriate permits.

There are several developments worth mentioning:

1. More garden suite designs are available. 2. Building permit fee rebates are available. Homeowners building or legalizing additional residential units can receive a refund of eligible building permit fees after construction and inspections are completed. 3. Building costs are easier to estimate.
