Ottawa’s housing market held up better than usual as the spring market gave way to summer. Sales in July were virtually unchanged from a year earlier, while new listings edged lower, improving the balance between incoming supply and sales compared with June. July marked the second time in three months that new listings fell below year-earlier levels, adding to signs that the flow of new supply is beginning to moderate and balance, even as the overall number of homes available remained high relative to recent historical trends.

Every housing decision matters. | Yesterday, OREB was back at Ottawa City Hall to follow discussions and decisions. Ottawa Councillors voted to pass The Development Charge Reduction Program and the Rental Renoviction Licence By-law Review.

As Ottawa continues to grow, we know that policies affecting housing supply, affordability, development, and rental housing have real impacts on homebuyers, renters, housing providers, and neighbourhoods across our city.

OREB remains committed to advocating for balanced, evidence-based solutions that support housing, increase supply, protect tenants, provide clarity for housing providers, and help more people find a place to call home.

We're happy to have offered the perspective of our Members at recent delegates at City Hall. We look forward to continuing these important conversations with municipal leaders as Ottawa plans for its future.
