🚨BoC Interest Rate Announcement🚨

The Bank of Canada has once again held its key interest rate at 2.25%.

THE CONTEXT: The Canadian economy is in a bit of a tug-of-war.
🔹Inflation is stabilizing: It’s sitting close to the 2% target.
🔹Economic caution: GDP growth stalled a bit in Q4, and unemployment is slightly elevated at 6.8%.
🔹The "US Factor": A lot of this decision is about uncertainty regarding US trade policies and tariffs. The BoC is being careful not to move too fast while things are unpredictable south of the border.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR MORTGAGES
1️⃣ If you have a Variable Rate Mortgage: Good news: Your payment (or the interest portion of it) likely remains unchanged today.
2️⃣ If you are shopping for a Fixed Rate: Fixed rates are tied to bond yields, not just today's announcement. With the Bank mentioning "heightened uncertainty" and global risks, bond markets might be a little volatile. However, with inflation looking tamed, we shouldn't see massive spikes. It’s a good environment to shop around.
3️⃣ For Buyers & Sellers in Ottawa: A stable rate of 2.25% provides certainty. Buyers know what they can afford, and we aren't chasing a moving target right now.
