💙 This is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 💙

As a mom, friend, sister, and someone who cares deeply about the people in my life, I’ve seen firsthand how many men carry their struggles quietly.

The fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, friends, coworkers, and neighbours who often carry more than they let on.

Many men were raised to be strong, to push through, and to handle things on their own. But real strength isn’t suffering in silence.

Real strength is reaching out.
Real strength is having honest conversations.
Real strength is saying, “I’m not okay.”

This Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s remind the men in our lives that they don’t have to carry everything alone.

A simple text.
A phone call.
A coffee.
A genuine “How are you really doing?”

One conversation, one check-in, one act of kindness can make all the difference.

✨ Fee Waived for Large Item Pickup ✨

As part of the Clean Streets Peterborough initiative, the City of Peterborough is introducing a free Large Item Pickup pilot program. The pilot will help evaluate participation levels, service demand and overall program performance while making the service more accessible to residents.

For the remainder of 2026, large item pickup is available at no cost. Collections must be booked in advance. Residents can select a collection week when booking and place eligible items at the curb during the designated set out time for collection.

Collection can be scheduled online at peterborough.ca/pickup. Bookings can also be made by phone at 705-742-7777 or in person at Service Peterborough, City Hall, 500 George St. N.

Large Item Pickup is intended for items that are too big or heavy for regular curbside collection. Eligible large items are defined as those weighing more than 13.6 kg (30 lbs) and longer than 1 m (3 ft). Collection is offered monthly from April through September.

Large Item Pickup will be available during the following collection weeks:

• June 22

• July 27

• August 24

• September 28

When you or someone you love hears the word “cancer,” the last thing you want is the added stress of travelling far from home for care.

That’s why I’m participating in the Dragon Boat Festival and raising money for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation. The funds raised help provide vital equipment and technology needed to diagnose cancer earlier and offer safer, more effective treatments — right here in our community.

Cancer has touched so many families, friends, neighbours, and clients in one way or another. Having access to exceptional care close to home can make an incredibly difficult journey just a little bit easier.

At 6:54 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Tuesday, Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for Central Ontario. Extra care and attention should be exercised in and around the following localities: Fenelon Falls, Balsam Lake Park, Apsley and Woodview.
Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.
