My dad passed away December 1st, 2025, after a tough battle with leukemia. In 2021 he was diagnosed with myelofibrosis (bone marrow cancer) and later in 2023 it progressed to acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Initially I just posted about this on my personal page but it doesn’t feel right to post anything else until I give a shout out to my dad. He is the reason I’m a Realtor today.

He encouraged me to get into Real Estate about 10 years ago. I failed the exam by 2% the first time I took it and if you fail twice, you have to redo the whole course. I was too nervous to go back and redo it for 6 months, so my dad found GOBC school and it’s sage to say that my second test went much better. He always believed in me.

In my eyes, he was the acreage specialist. He lived on it for most of his life, so he knew what was needed to maintain it/ what it required. I learned a lot from him but I wish I could have learned so much more.

He told me stories of actually talking people OUT of buying homes. Our job is supposed to be selling homes, not steering people away from them. But when you’re an honest person and you know a home isn’t a good buy, you should probably speak up instead of staying quiet for a quicker paycheque.

The first pic is at the completion of the last house we sold together in 2025. We were in Kelowna (one of his favourite places), the sun was shining and everyone was happy. The last photo was from a time that we showed homes on Bowen Island. If we were exploring, he was always happy.

I’ll admit, it’s tough in today’s world for a single person (aka 1 income) to get into the market, unless you have a massive downpayment or co-signers. But after many months, with patience and perseverance, we have found the one! ⁣

Sometimes your first home isn’t your first choice, but the first step is getting into the market. Build some equity over time, do some renovations and by the time you sell and move onto your next property, you can be a lot pickier. ⁣
