June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. And this one is personal for me.
In 2017, I lost my dad to su***de.
I don't share that for sympathy. I share it because I know there are people reading this who are carrying something heavy right now — and I know there are people in your life who are too, and you might not even know it.
Men are so often taught to push through. To be strong. To not be a burden. And so they go quiet. And the people who love them don't always know what to say, or how to ask.
So here's what I'm asking you to do today — just one thing.
Call or text a man in your life. A friend, your brother, your dad, your coworker, whoever comes to mind first. And genuinely ask them how they are doing. Not a quick "you good?" — really ask. With kindness, grace, and patience. Tell them you're thinking about them. Tell them you're there.
That conversation could mean more than you'll ever know.

25 minutes on a highway with no traffic vs. 25 minutes sitting in city gridlock — yeah, it’s an easy choice.

Buying a home in Central Alberta? The purchase price is just the beginning. Here’s what most buyers are blindsided by before they get the keys 👇
1. Land Title Transfer Fee Alberta charges a fee to transfer the title into your name. On a $400K home in Red Deer, you’re looking at roughly $400–$500. Small but real.
2. Mortgage Registration Fee Separate from the title transfer — this registers your mortgage with the province. Budget another $300–$500.
3. Legal Fees You need a real estate lawyer in Alberta — no exceptions. In Central Alberta expect $1,000–$1,800 depending on the deal.
4. Home Inspection Typically $400–$600 in our area. With acreages and older homes common around Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, and Lacombe — this one is non-negotiable.
5. Property Tax Adjustment If the seller has prepaid property taxes, you’ll reimburse them for your portion at possession. This one always catches buyers off guard.
6. Title Insurance One-time fee, usually $200–$400. Protects you from title fraud and survey issues — especially important on rural and acreage properties.
7. Moving Costs Everyone forgets this one. Even a local move from Ponoka to Red Deer can run $800–$2,000+.
The rule of thumb? Budget 1.5–2% of your purchase price on top of your down payment for closing costs alone.
