Bradford Shellhammer works in the business of taste. Before joining 1stDibs as chief marketing & product officer for 1stDibs, his career had traversed everything from editorial to entrepreneurship; he founded three companies, most notably Fab.com, a flash sale site for homeware and design once valued at $1 billion. Bradford is a tastemaker, but he sees his job more as a facilitator than a dictator, helping collectors find what they love in the big bad world of design on the World Wide Web.

Sasha Mei has never been content with staying in one lane. What started as an Instagram presence in the early days of social media has evolved into something far harder to categorize, a practice built around the pursuit of taste, connection, and the quietly radical act of gathering people around a table.

It’s our second round of East Room Film Club!

Our quarterly programme powered by MUBI features curator-selected screenings, hosted in an intimate setting exclusively for East Room members.

This month’s selection is No Other Choice by Park Chan-Wook.

When a happy family man is dismissed after twenty five years of loyal service at a paper company, he finds the perfect solution to land his next role: truly eliminate the competition.

Following the screening, we’re thrilled to welcome cowriter Don McKellar to our 50 Carroll location for a post-film Q&A, moderated by .

Mr. Tophat, the Swedish DJ and producer, brings a distinctive voice to the global house music scene. Deeply rooted in Stockholm’s underground, he draws strong inspiration from the groove of American dance music traditions. A vinyl purist, he favours its tactile warmth and champions physical releases for their longevity. He crafts improvisational mixes, often using almost exclusively his own material, that reflect his jet-lagged, hyped state of mind and preserve authenticity in the Shazam era.

Music has always been the deepest connector for Ariel Swan, a former professional dancer who felt every rhythm pulse through her body, igniting raw presence and expression. That lifelong bond between beat and movement inspired Jaybird Studios, co-founded with Barbie Bent in Vancouver in 2019 and later expanded to Toronto.

We’re excited to announce East Room Film Club. A quarterly programme powered by MUBI, featuring curator-selected screenings, hosted in an intimate setting exclusively for East Room members.

This month’s selection is My Father’s Shadow, the feature-length debut from director Akinola Davies Jr.

A poetic, tender portrait of father–son bonds. Framed by the political landscape of 1993 Lagos, the film follows a father and his two young sons as they journey into and around the vibrantly rendered Nigerian metropolis, quietly reckoning with their relationship while navigating a city on the precipice of democratic crisis.

The latest season of Top Chef Canada culminated in a heated restaurant war between Vancouver’s Alex Kim and Toronto’s Coulson Armstrong. With a final lineup of scallop crudo, pasta, and a maple tart, Armstrong out-cooked Kim by putting himself on the plate. “They wanted us to cook something that perfectly represented who we are and where we’re at in our careers,” he says. “So being able to just cook from the heart and know I gave it everything I had made me proud of every dish.”
