What if we stopped building parking for cars that aren’t there?

As Vancouver continues to rethink parking requirements, the conversation is shifting toward how we can make better use of limited space and make rental housing more viable in the process.

As Steve Forrest, COO at PC Urban, shared with the Vancouver Sun, underground parking can come at a significant cost, with some stalls costing roughly $100,000 each to build.

When those stalls sit empty, that’s a major investment providing little financial benefit to the project.

With transit-oriented development becoming increasingly important, it’s worth asking: are we building for the way people live today—or the way we used to?
