New car sales drop sharply in Canada — another recession warning.

August 2025 saw a 7.1% plunge in new vehicle sales, the steepest August decline since 2010. Average prices have fallen over 8% since December, while total sales volume slipped below $9.2B.

Economists call cars the “canary in the coal mine” of consumer confidence — when people stop buying vehicles, housing and retail often follow.

Are we watching the same early signs that preceded every downturn since the ’80s?

Canada job growth September 2025 — could it delay the next interest rate cut?

Canada added 60,000 new jobs in September — far above what analysts expected. Great for workers, tricky for homebuyers. A strong labour market makes the Bank of Canada hesitate before cutting rates on October 29th. If the economy looks too healthy, they’ll worry about inflation flaring up again.

So that drop in mortgage and interest rates buyers were hoping for? It might not come yet. Do you think the Bank will still move on the 29th — or hold steady?
