Building a strong co-op starts with strong community. 🌱

Over the past months, we’ve been working alongside members of Sawmill Housing Co-op through workshops and information sessions focused on co-op governance, collaboration, and community leadership.

Today we celebrated the Grand Opening of McHardy Housing Co-op!

We were joined by representatives from our development and funding partners, as well as new co-op members for a celebration of 102 new co-op homes in East Vancouver.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important milestone, we look forward to seeting this new community flourish.

More than 100 new co-op homes are now complete in East Vancouver, providing secure, community-focused housing for individuals and families in the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood. Today the federal government, announced more than $32.6 million through the Canada Greener Affordable Housing Program (CGAH) to repair and retrofit 269 homes at Garden Court Housing Co-op and Packard Housing Co-op.

The 2024 acquisition of these two housing co-operatives by the Community Land Trust—supported by the Province through the Rental Protection Fund and by the City of Coquitlam—was a critical step in making sure resident members could stay in their homes and remain part of this community.

Upgrades include the installation of doubled-paned windows, new heat pumps, energy recovery ventilators, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and rooftop solar panels. In addition to reduced energy costs, many of these upgrades will also result in greater comfort and safety for residents during extreme weather events.

We’re excited to welcome our new Property Manager, who brings 11 years of property management experience, specializing in aging, low-rise properties in the BC rental market. Bartek also has four years of leadership experience managing a large, geographically diverse portfolio across the Fraser Valley and BC Interior.

When asked what brought him to CLT, Bartek replied:

“I strongly believe in community-first housing and the role co-operatives play in creating stable, inclusive places to live. Collaborating with associations, government agencies, and support groups is essential to advancing sustainable, affordable housing across British Columbia. I’m excited to contribute my experience to this growing movement and begin this next chapter of my career.”

Outside of work, Bartek is an avid outdoors enthusiast who loves hiking and camping. Mountains and forests feel as much like home as his apartment, and in his spare time he also enjoys travelling, skiing, and playing tennis.
