Local councils in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are changing!

Our area is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), the Government’s national programme to simplify how councils are structured in England.

It means from April 2028, the seven current county, district, city and unitary councils in our area will be replaced by a smaller number of new ‘unitary councils’ responsible for providing all the council services you access.

The Government is expected to announce which new councils will be created in July 2026. Whatever the decision, existing councils are working together to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible and ensure your services continue as normal without disruption.

We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.

We've expressed serious concern following confirmation that the Government plans to create a Greater Cambridge urban development corporation 🏗️

While we support investment to tackle infrastructure challenges, we do not believe this should come at the cost of local democratic decision-making 🗳️

🏡 Our area is already one of the highest-performing in the country for delivering new homes - and that success is built on local knowledge, community involvement and accountability

We’re calling for genuine partnership with local councils - not decisions being taken away from the communities they affect

💬 "We are in the dark as to any details about how the development corporation will operate and frankly, we have more questions than answers."

🚨 Important update for landlords – 31 May deadline 🚨

Under the new Renters’ Rights Act, all landlords must provide their tenants with the official Information Sheet explaining the changes to renting law by 31st May.

Failure to do this could result in fines of up to £7,000.
✅ The document must be given to each tenant individually
✅ It must be sent as a PDF or hard copy (not just a link)
✅ This applies to both new and existing tenancies

💚 The good news for Shire Homes Lettings landlords…
You don’t need to worry — we’ve got it covered.
At Shire Homes Lettings, we have already served the required Information Sheets to all our tenants and ensured full compliance ahead of the deadline.

📩 If you’re currently self-managing and feeling unsure about the new rules, get in touch — we’re here to help make lettings simple and stress-free.
