A busy week of improvements!

The burning pit and separate compost and leaf mould area have had tarmac laid to tidy things up. Granite cobbles are next, with a resin finish to follow.

We reuse as much as we can from the gardens. Leaves become leaf mould, and compostable material goes back into the soil. Thanks to our head gardener, who manages it all and knows what’s best for the gardens.

A massive thank you to the whole team for their work across the estate this week, from laying woodland paths to tarmacking entranceways and keeping the estate accessible throughout. 👏

The horses have been enjoying the ménage for a while now, and we’re finally getting round to the finishing touches around it. 🐴

Next up is a sleeper border and some planting at the front. Our wooden horse seems quite happy with the view in the meantime — especially at sunset. 🌅

One of our favourite places!

What was once the old Victorian grotto has been brought back to life as our water garden, with ponds, waterfalls, stone paths and planting all tucked away beneath the trees.

And probably the best addition of all — a bench perfectly positioned to sit, listen to the water and have five minutes to think. Sometimes it’s nice just to stop and enjoy what’s been created. 🌿💧

A little finishing touch for the stables… 🐎

We’ve had this hand carved in stone, featuring The Green Hall and the AH emblem, ready to be built into the gable of the stables.

The two letters have ended up meaning quite a lot to us. AH represents us both as directors, it’s become our equestrian emblem, it has a personal connection to my family heritage despite the surname I carry today — and, of course, Aurora Homes is another AH.

It’s funny how the same two letters have naturally followed us through the estate, the horses, our businesses and our homes.

We’ll be taking this idea further too, adding similar bespoke touches into our luxury homes, including details that recognise our collaboration with

Equestrian Development – Built to Last 🐎

A look back at creating the new entranceway into our equestrian development.

No shortcuts underneath this one — solid prepared base, steel reinforcement mesh and C40 concrete to create a hard-wearing roadway capable of taking everything from horseboxes and trailers to tractors and heavy machinery.

A fair bit of preparation goes into something that, once finished, simply looks like a concrete road!

Right at the top of the house, in what we believe would once have been the servants’ quarters, is another reminder of just how differently houses like this were built.

Hidden away up here is an old rainwater system, with a large collection tank and a gutter that actually runs beneath the floorboards before eventually finding its way to the outside downpipe.

It’s a fascinating bit of the Hall’s history and certainly not something you’d design today! The downside is that moss and debris build up in it, so it needs regularly cleaning out to prevent it blocking and causing problems inside the house.

Not the easiest system to maintain, especially when it’s right at the very top of the building, but that’s all part of looking after a house that has evolved over hundreds of years.

Another day, another “I’ve had an idea”… and a few weeks ago, a fountain turned up! ⛲️😂

Now the work has officially started on Project Fountain! fingers crossed it looks as good in real life as it does in my head!

Keeping on top of regular maintenance across our properties is important to us.

This weekend we’re sweeping moss from the roofs at Storforth Lane Trading Estate — something we carry out every year as part of the ongoing maintenance of the site.

With the estate busy throughout the working week, jobs like this are always easier to tackle out of hours, helping us get the work done with minimal disruption to our tenants.

Another regular job keeping the estate well maintained and looked after year-round.
