Preserving historic buildings requires more than technical expertise - it demands a careful, considered approach. 🏛️
We were recently commissioned to investigate structural concerns at a Grade II listed guest house in Glemsford, where the owners had reported a cracked beam affecting an upstairs bedroom ceiling, along with structural issues within the loft space.
Following a detailed inspection, our Structural Engineers identified significant decay at the base of the external load-bearing walls, affecting their ability to safely support the roof, first floor, and the walls themselves.
To protect the building and maintain its stability, we designed and installed temporary support beams while longer-term remedial solutions are developed. We are also working closely with the local authority to ensure all temporary works are appropriate for the property's listed status, helping preserve its historic character for the future. 🤝
Projects involving listed buildings require a balance between structural safety and heritage conservation. We're proud to support clients in protecting these important buildings with practical, sensitive engineering solutions. ✏️
