This Victorian home had great bones - but the layout wasn’t working.

Rosslyn is a now a light-filled, carefully reconfigured home in the heart of Hampstead. What began as a classic London home has been transformed into a layered, contemporary home filled with texture, rhythm and calm.

Over the next few posts I’ll share the and thinking behind the design and a few favourite details.

Strength and Load-Bearing Capacity: ​​​​​​​​
Glulam beams are exceptionally strong and can bear really big loads, and therefore large spans. ​​​​​​​​

Sustainability:​​​​​​​​
As a sustainable material, glulam is often used in green building projects and a parabolic roof can be designed to manage natural light and ventilation.​​​​​​​​

Flexibility in Design: ​​​​​​​​
Glulam can be manufactured in curved shapes and complex geometries not possible with traditional timber.​​​​​​​​

Sustainability:​​​​​​​​
Timber, when sourced from sustainable forests, is an environmentally friendly material.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Does it look nice?: ​​​​​​​​
Glulam beams have the same natural, warm aesthetic of traditional timber and can be exposed an an internal feature. ​​​​​​​​
