No fewer than 30% of first-time buyers in England are now purchasing homes above £300,000 and so facing a stamp duty bill.

Research shows that more first-time buyers than ever pay stamp duty since thresholds changed in April 2025.

Getting on the property ladder is hard enough, no first-time buyers should also be having to find the extra expense of stamp duty. It needs scrapping.

Think buying a home is just about saving for the deposit and getting a mortgage? Think again.

Many buyers are shocked by the number of extra costs involved in moving home, from surveys and legal fees to removals, mortgage charges and unexpected expenses along the way.

It’s one of the most common mistakes we see. Buyers budget carefully for the purchase price but forget to leave room for the costs that come after their offer is accepted.

We were recently asked by The Sun to share our tips on how homebuyers can reduce moving costs and avoid being caught out by hidden fees.
