Wagon Train Wakes Eccles - Sunday 4th October

As work continues to bring more activity into Eccles Town Centre, there’ll be even more happening this October as Walk the Plank’s Wagon Train arrives on Church Street for a free, family-friendly afternoon of music, performance, art and activity.

📅 Sunday 4th October
⏰ 11am–3pm
📍 Church Street, Eccles

Taking place alongside the return of Eccles Artisan Market, the programme will include singing, dancing, live music, art workshops, drama performances, an art trail from Humbug Art, 96 Degrees musicians collective and Angie Thompson’s ‘Invitation to Play.’

There’ll also be a Pram Race at 2pm, open to pushchairs, wheels and anything you can push, pull or promenade with, alongside Walk the Plank’s giant pram.

The full programme will be announced nearer the time.

Explore Eccles – a new programme of town centre walks

Eccles’ heritage and green spaces were highlighted as key priorities during the Community Conversations, with St Mary’s Gardens mentioned in particular.

This autumn and winter, we’ll be running a new programme of town centre walks, giving people the chance to learn more about Eccles’ unique heritage and explore its green spaces with local experts.

The first walk, Trees of St Mary’s Gardens: Discovering Their Stories, takes place on Wednesday 9 September at 11am, with more walks to follow soon.

Walks are free but places are limited and booking is essential.

Unearthing Eccles’ history at Eccles Parish Church

Through the Community Conversations, people told us how important Eccles’ heritage and character are to the town and its future.

That history is about to be explored in a very literal way, with archaeological works getting underway inside Eccles Parish Church.

Specialist work will begin soon to carefully lift sections of the historic Minton tiles in the Chancel, produced between1855-1863, ahead of an archaeological excavation expected to last around three to four weeks.

The church is also hoping to offer opportunities for people to get involved and learn more about the history of Eccles and St Mary’s Church as the work progresses.

What a fantastic turnout!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Eccles Artisan Market and Playful Nature activities over the weekend.

One of the strongest messages we heard during our community conversations was that people wanted a more vibrant town centre, with more events, activities and reasons to spend time in Eccles.

This weekend showed exactly what makes Eccles special. Local businesses, families and the wider community came together to create a welcoming, lively atmosphere - and you made it happen by coming along and supporting these activities.

We'll continue working with partners to deliver more events and experiences that bring people together while longer-term regeneration plans for Eccles progress.

Thank you for being part of Eccles' future. We can't wait to share what's coming next.

Looking for something to do this weekend?

Join us in Eccles town centre this Sunday for a day of free activities celebrating local businesses, creativity and community.

🛍 Eccles Artisan Market – Browse a wide range of independent stalls offering arts, crafts and local produce, alongside a selection of street food traders serving up flavours from around the world on Church Street.

🌿 Playful Nature with Angie Thompson – Head to St Mary's Gardens for free family activities, including nature-inspired crafts, playful trails and a Travelling Nature Museum.

These activities are part of our ongoing work with partners to bring more life into Eccles town centre while longer-term regeneration plans progress - responding to what you told us you'd like to see more of.

What could a more family-friendly Eccles town centre look like?

During our community conversations, many of you told us you'd like to see more welcoming spaces for families and children in the town centre.

This Sunday, we're exploring one way that could look. Join artist Angie Thompson in St Mary's Gardens for free nature-inspired play and creativity, designed to encourage families to enjoy one of Eccles' key green spaces.

🌿 Create nature-inspired art
🍃 Follow playful paths through the gardens
🏛️ Help curate a Travelling Nature Museum

Eccles Artisan Market on Church Street will also have free face painting and free kids arts & crafts with MILA, with the opportunity to make some Crazy Faces!

As regeneration plans continue to develop, activities like this help us explore how Eccles' public spaces can become more welcoming, vibrant and enjoyable for everyone.
