Key Housing Bill - Bi Partisan Support but Stalled at White House

Trump didn’t sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act as expected today. This is the sweeping housing affordability bill passed by the Senate in an 85-5 vote. The House passed the bill 358-32.

The legislation:

* Makes it easier to build homes
* Slaps limits on Wall Street investors’ buying up houses
* Approves a series of funding and grant programs for constructing new homes
* Slashes red tape
* Empowers local governments to expedite building more housing
* Restricts large institutional investors from buying single-family homes

In other ways the bill exposes the limits of the federal government’s ability to increase housing supply. Congress doesn’t have the authority to change local zoning regulations and building codes that determine what gets built in America, bogging down new-housing development for decades.
