Today is Snoopy’s Birthday 🐾🎂
August 10 is officially recognized as the birthday of Snoopy, Charles M. Schulz’s imaginative and endlessly lovable beagle from Peanuts.
The date comes from a series of comic strips published from August 8 through August 10, 1968, in which Charlie Brown, Linus and the gang prepared a surprise birthday celebration for Snoopy. Although an earlier strip published on August 28, 1951, appeared to celebrate his birthday on a different date, August 10 eventually became the officially recognized occasion.
Snoopy had already made his newspaper debut nearly 18 years earlier, appearing for the first time on October 4, 1950, in only the third Peanuts comic strip. Readers did not learn his name until November 10 of that year, and he gradually evolved from a mostly ordinary four-legged dog into one of the most imaginative characters in popular culture.
From the fearless World War I Flying Ace battling the Red Baron to the effortlessly cool Joe Cool and the determined World-Famous Author beginning another story with “It was a dark and stormy night,” Snoopy has always transformed everyday life into an unforgettable adventure.
October 4, 2026, will mark 76 years since Snoopy’s first appearance, but he does not have a confirmed in-universe birth year. It is therefore more accurate to celebrate August 10 as his official birthday without assigning him a specific age.
More than seven decades after his debut, the world-famous beagle continues to remind generations of fans that imagination can turn a doghouse into a flying ace’s cockpit and an ordinary day into something extraordinary.
