As Atlanta welcomes thousands of visitors for the World Cup, it's important to remember that major events can increase the risk of both s*x and labor trafficking. Traffickers are often drawn to large crowds and may exploit the surge in tourism by moving victims through hotels, entertainment venues, and other public spaces.
Knowing the warning signs can help save a life. Be aware of individuals who appear fearful, anxious, submissive, unable to come and go freely, or who provide scripted answers. Traffickers may also maintain control by holding a victim's identification documents, boarding passes, or hotel key cards.
If you suspect someone is in immediate danger or may be a victim of trafficking, call 911 right away. Reporting suspicious activity could help protect someone from exploitation.
At Covenant House Georgia, we are committed to providing a safe space where young people experiencing trafficking can find support, safety, and resources on their path to healing.
