In 2012, I had the honor of stewarding the sale of the historic Allan Rohan Crite House at 410 Columbus Avenue in Boston’s South End. To commemorate his extraordinary legacy, Jackie Cox Crite and I hosted a celebration and block party for the installation of a memorial plaque, proudly unveiled by Mayor Tom Menino.
Today, on Juneteenth, we remember Allan Rohan Crite- one of New England’s most prolific African American artists and storytellers. Through his art, he captured the everyday beauty and truth of daily life in South End & Roxbury, offering narratives that history books too often overlooked. His legacy lives on in every brushstroke and every brick.
