Not every home that looks good online is the right buy. In today’s market, buyers need to look beyond the photos and pay attention to the details that could affect value, resale, and future costs.

An overpriced home can be a sign that the seller’s expectations do not match the current market. Signs of water damage, like stains, musty smells, or warped flooring, can point to larger issues hiding beneath the surface. If a home has been sitting much longer than others nearby, it is worth digging into why. Foundation cracks, uneven floors, or sticking doors may also signal bigger structural concerns. And if the neighborhood is changing quickly, buyers should consider what that could mean for taxes, construction, traffic, and long term affordability.

Such a cool comparison....

In the 1860s Henry C Brown homesteaded 160 acres of land east of Denver around, what is now, Capitol Hill. He donated the land for the state capital to be built on. He built the Brown Palace hotel on a triangle of land that he used to use for as a pasture, and he developed the rest of this land. He split it up into parcels, and he knew that, with the completion of the capital, that land would be very valuable, and it turned out to be true. Some of the wealthiest and most influential people in Denver bought homes in that area. After they struck it rich in leadville, Horace and Augusta Tabor built a mansion at 18th and Broadway. William Newton Byers built a mansion at Colfax and Sherman street. After Horace Tabor divorced Augusta to marry Baby Doe, He built a huge mansion at 12th and Sherman. In fact, Sherman street became known as Millionaires Row.
Very few of those homes survive. They have been replaced by office buildings and apartment buildings.
