This is me, working!

The highlight reel is easy. The sold sign, the ch*****ne, the keys.

What actually tells you who your agent is happens on a random Tuesday, sitting in the car between showings, on the phone with a lender, measuring a room for the third time because you weren't sure the couch would fit.

If you want someone who shows up for the Tuesdays, not just the closing photos, that's me.

I know, strange thing to hear from a realtor.

But I'd rather tell you the truth than talk you into a house you're not ready for.

So here's something you don't hear us say often: renting is not throwing money away.

You're paying for a place to live, for flexibility, and for zero responsibility when the water heater dies in February.

There are real seasons when renting is the smarter financial move. If you might relocate in the next couple of years, if your income isn't steady yet, if buying would drain the savings you'd want for an emergency, renting buys you time to get into a stronger position.

Owning a home is a great goal. It's just not automatically the right one for this exact moment.

Ask five agents how the market's doing and you'll get five different answers.

That's because the market isn't one thing. The national headlines don't tell you much about your street or your price point, so here's what I'm actually seeing on the ground right now.

Summer in Chicago always shifts things. Buyers who have been watching since spring are ready to move, and the north and west side neighborhoods I work in are reflecting that. Good inventory, serious buyers, and homes that are priced and presented well are not sitting.

What do I do when I am not selling real estate in Chicago? Create a glass piece!

Some say it's back-to-school season, but I say August is for squeezing every last drop out of summer.

Here's my August R.E.P.O.R.T. — a little snapshot of what I've been into lately, in real estate and real life. Tell me yours in the comments.

R – Reading: Hotel Cuba by Aaron Hamburger. I've never been to Cuba, but after reading about the kindness and joy found there, I need to go.

E – Excited: A trip to see my best friend and sisters in Denver and Seattle. Cannot wait.

P – Preparing: Getting everything in order before I'm gone because my clients still need me, even when I'm technically on vacation.

O – On My Radar: The Showhouse at the Mart. The layered maxi styling completely blew my mind. Chicago design is doing something right.

R – Recommending: Maria Pinto. The clothes are perfectly designed for every body, and the bold colors are everything. If you know, you know.

T – Thankful: The summer slowdown. I forgot how much I love just watching a good movie. Gladiator still holds up, by the way.

I found out what happens when 13 design firms take over a penthouse at the Merchandise Mart.

And it's AMAZING!

Each of these nationally recognized interior design firms created a unique space inside The Showhouse, located on the first floor of the iconic Merchandise Mart.

The layered maximalist styling and bold choices in every room made me walk out and immediately look at my own home with completely different eyes. Time to redecorate?

If you are in Chicago and have not walked through it yet, go. It is open to the public, and if you love interior design as much as I do, you will not regret it.
