Roofing Fact
Did you know that even if the roof looks normal after a storm you can have lots of damage that you’re not aware of?
A lot of people believe that unless they have a leak, their roof is fine, but that is not the case.
Damage that occurs from wind or hail can shorten the life expectancy of your roof and siding systems that protect your home.
When hail hits your roof, it’s not something that typically causes an immediate leak, but what it does is impact your roof so hard that it removes the protective granules and exposes the fiberglass matting within your shingles. After this occurs, it opens up hundreds of small circular areas which, when followed by sun exposure, will eventually dry out, crack, and deteriorate the shingles much faster than normal—leading to premature failure of the entire roofing system.
Wind damage is just as sneaky. High winds can lift and flex the shingles repeatedly, breaking the seal between the shingles and the roof deck. This causes “wind uplift,” where the edges of the shingles curl, crack, or loosen. Over time, this hidden damage allows moisture to get underneath the shingles, leading to rot in the decking, weakened structure, and eventual leaks that may not show up for months.
That’s exactly why it’s so important to get your property checked out by a qualified roofing professional right after a storm. Even if everything looks okay from the ground, hidden damage from both hail and wind can be quietly compromising your roof’s integrity.
A lot of times this damage goes unnoticed until one day you’re looking at your roof and all the spots that were hit now have fiberglass exposed or shingles that are curled and lifting. All of this damage is covered by the insurance company most times, leading to a full replacement of the roofing or siding system—often at little to no cost to you if filed properly and in a timely manner.
Don’t wait for leaks or visible wear to show up. Early inspection after any significant storm can save you thousands down the road and protect your biggest investment—your home.
