Happy National Grandparents Day to Nana + Grandpa. Or, as Illy calls them, Nana + GrandPappy. Or, as Marty calls them, Cyn + her husband. šŸ˜‚šŸ©µ

They came to visit last weekend and one of my favorite parts was that they just immersed themselves in our lives. Soccer, friends, our neighborhood, all the normal weekend things. With one non-negotiable: brunch at Samā€™s No. 3, a tradition for their visits for pretty much all 22 years Iā€™ve lived here.

Iā€™m so thankful B gets to not only know his grandparents, but really enjoy them. To spend time together, make memories, laugh, and have them be part of his actual life.

We love you, Nana + GrandPappy. šŸ˜‚

That might mean helping a client navigate a big decision, sharing something that makes the market a little clearer, supporting a local organization, or simply starting a conversation that needed to happen.

For me, business has never existed separately from community. They are connected by the same question: How can we make things a little better for the people around us?

Thereā€™s something pretty special about friendships that have lasted almost as long as Garth Brooks has been touring. šŸ©µ

In a world that can feel heavy, while balancing work, motherhood, mental loads, and very full schedules, Iā€™m especially grateful for a friend who also chooses joy.

Rachel and I live only a neighborhood apart and still donā€™t see each other nearly enough. But when we do, we make it count. Belting out every song, laughing until our faces hurt, with proper catch-ups and full vulnerability packed into the rides there and back.

Sometimes joy is something you have to make room for. Say yes to the concert. Sing your damn heart out. Make the most of the people you love.

And a HUGE shoutout to Shelby Parkhill at Canvas Credit Union for somehow scoring us last-minute tickets and making this night happen! šŸ™Œā¤ļø

So grateful for you, Rach. And for a friendship with some serious staying power.

August was WILD.

Three trips to the Midwest. Zero camps after a summer full of them. And two weekends in a row of live music at fairgrounds, The Chicks at the Illinois State Fair and Billy Strings at the Ionia Free Fair.

There is just something about outdoor music, fair food, nostalgia and summer that heals my soul.

And I loved giving Benton a little stretch of summer with nowhere he had to be. A little less structure, a little more freedom, and a glimpse of the kind of summer I remember before heading back to school.

Iā€™ve realized this is a pattern of mine. I love saying yes to the fun, the adventure, the slightly chaotic, might-only-get-to-do-this-once opportunities.

And then I am VERY ready to come home to the routines, structure and stability I love just as much.

August, you were a lot. And you were really good.

September, I am very happy to see you.
