From its start as a vision of Sister Stella Neill, Anawim Housing has become a local leader in affordable housing - working tirelessly to end homelessness and ensure the most vulnerable in our community have a safe place to call home. Today, Anawim Housing is the largest provider of Permanent Supportive Housing in the state of Iowa. Managing over 220 housing units, Anawim provides stable housing to 386 individuals who have experienced homelessness and live with a mental illness, substance use disorder, physical disability, diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, or are fleeing domestic violence. A well-established leader in affordable housing development and management, Anawim Housing is sought out by public entities, community organizations, faith communities and for-profit and non-profit owners. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, 26% of renters are paying half or more of their income in housing costs. Anawim Housing provides affordable housing options so that our neighbors don't have to choose between paying their rent and putting groceries on the table. Our safe and stable homes are paired with a network of supportive resources to empower our residents to build brighter futures.

During last week's storms, a tree fell through the roof of one of our homes. Thankfully and most importantly, no one was hurt -- and because they live in an Anawim home, the family residing here doesn't need to worry about paying for repairs. The Anawim team is here to ensure they have a safe place to live while their home is fixed, take care of tree removal, and cover repair costs.

But maintaining our properties is a significant cost. While Anawim is committed to keeping our units affordable for the families who need them most, costs to repair and upkeep our properties remain the same as any other home. That's why we must raise funds every year to keep our rents affordable, our homes well maintained, and to employ a compassionate and expert team to take care of our people and our properties.
