Here’s proof that speaking up about issues in your city which need to be addressed can actually get things moving. Of course, it helps if you have a council member who truly listens to the people - kudos to Jim O’Hara, Encinitas City Council member/Deputy Mayor.

Several neighbors and I went to a city council meeting last month, after Jim O’Hara met with us and representatives from the YMCA and Seacrest retirement community to discuss the problematic traffic calming measure on Saxony Road. He then put the issue on the calendar for discussion and a vote. After hearing from several speakers, the council voted unanimously to replace the ineffective chicanes with a 4-way stop sign.

Don’t be afraid to speak up!
