🚨 Heads Up Homeowners (Homes Built 1978–1995) 🚨

NOTE: This is for people unaware and/or forgot this issue existed. If you are aware, then this post is not for you. So, let's not dewell.

For me it is running $3800-$4200 for this repair.
We built it in 1993 and closed March 1994. I can't say emphatically, you have this pipe. However chances are yours will fail before long.

Below are key points for your consideration:
Check your water line, at the meter, for Quest (Polybutylene) Piping.
🛠️ How to Spot It: Flexible gray/blue plastic tubing .
⚠️ The Problem: Chlorine in city water degrades the plastic from the inside out. The exterior can look totally fine right up until it suddenly cracks or bursts.
🚫 No Repair Quick-Fix: Patching PB lines usually leads to future leaks. Plumbers strongly recommend a full repipe (PEX or PVC) from the meter to the house.
📋 Insurance & Real Estate: Because production was banned in 1996 following massive class-action lawsuits, many home insurance companies restrict coverage or require replacement.
⌛ No Active Settlement Funds: The original $950M class-action repair funds expired over a decade ago, so repairs are 100% out-of-pocket now.
👉 Pro-Tip Neighbors: Check your main shutoff, at the meter box. If you have it, ask your insurance agent about adding an optional Service Line Endorsement to cover underground utility lines before a leak happens! My State Farm policy has it, although a little late. Good Luck!!
