Every single day, a delivery from Porto's Bakery arrives at our door. Over a year, that adds up to more than $1 million in pastries. Our CEO, Mark Hood, likes to joke that we’re the only place in LA County where you don’t have to wait in line for Porto’s.

For 135 years, we have supported Angelenos in need. Food insecurity is a constant struggle for many, and partners like Porto’s, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Starbucks help us meet it. But about 80% of the food we serve, we buy ourselves.

That’s where you come in. A year-end gift puts a hot meal on a plate. Thank you to SFGATE for telling this story.

Sometimes a fresh start begins with something as simple as fresh clothes. 💙

Many of our guests arrive at Union Rescue Mission with little more than what they’re wearing. A warm meal and a safe place to rest matter deeply—but so does being able to shower, put on clean clothes, and feel like yourself again.

Right now, we need gently used clothing for men, women, and children of all sizes.

Your closet can become part of someone’s way home. Donated clothing helps us meet the immediate needs of individuals and families across URM while reminding every person who walks through our doors that they are worthy of dignity, compassion, and care.

As we embrace everyone with the compassion of Christ, practical gifts like yours help us walk alongside people as they heal, rebuild, and begin again.

Clean out your closet. Give with purpose. Help someone take their next step toward home.

🚨 We Need Your Help! 🍽️

Union Rescue Mission is in urgent need of Meal Service Volunteers Monday–Friday to help serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

We are currently looking for volunteers at all three URM locations:

📍 Downtown Los Angeles
📍 Angeles House Family Center
📍 Hope Gardens Family Center

A warm meal is more than food—it’s a reminder that someone cares. By serving alongside us, you’ll help provide nourishment, dignity, and hope to the men, women, and children we serve every day.

Whether you can volunteer once or on a regular basis, your time can make a lasting impact. 💙

Sign up today and help us serve our community.

Today is Donor Advised Fund Day—a meaningful opportunity to put generosity already set aside to work for people experiencing homelessness.

A distribution from your DAF to Union Rescue Mission can help provide far more than shelter and meals. It can help a mother find stability, give a man in recovery the support to rebuild his life, help a child feel safe, and open doors to education, employment, healing, and a future filled with possibility.
At URM, we believe every person deserves to be seen, valued, and supported on the way home. Your DAF can become part of that journey.

Please consider recommending a DAF distribution to Union Rescue Mission today.

If you would like to establish a Donor Advised Fund using appreciated assets or cash—or simply learn more about how DAF giving works—contact Tim Peters—[email protected], Director of Planned Giving, and discover how your generosity can be turned into lasting impact and changed lives.

As we look ahead to Thanksgiving, we celebrate a community that shows up for each other, and a chance to give thanks together. For many of our neighbors, it's also a reminder that they are seen, valued, and not alone. Because of friends like you, they find a seat, a plate, and a place where they belong.

Everyone deserves a holiday, and everyone deserves a way home. 🧡 Help make Thanksgiving feel like home for a neighbor in need at URM.org.

We were honored to welcome back the Lakers Community Relations team to Union Rescue Mission! 💜💛

It was a privilege to give their team a tour of URM, share more about the work happening every day, and show firsthand how we’re helping our neighbors experiencing homelessness find hope and a way forward.

We are incredibly grateful for Lakers Community Relations’ continued and increased support, and we’re excited about the opportunity to grow our partnership and make an even greater impact together.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, learn more about our mission, and stand alongside the people we serve. We’re grateful to have you with us on . 🙌

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting Dr. Mary Marfisee, Family Medical Services Director at Union Rescue Mission, who has spent nearly 20 years caring for our neighbors experiencing homelessness on Skid Row. 🎀

Dr. Marfisee identified a critical gap in care: 87% of women experiencing homelessness are not current on preventive screenings, including mammograms and Pap smears.

At URM, she has helped bring women’s health education and mobile screenings directly to our guests, making potentially lifesaving preventive care more accessible. 💗

Early detection matters. Access to care matters. Every woman matters.

What a joy to welcome Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church back to Union Rescue Mission! 💙

This was their first time volunteering with us since the pandemic, and they came ready to serve with their whole hearts. From washing dishes and prepping food for the next day to mopping, sweeping, plating, and serving meals, their team stepped in wherever they were needed to support our kitchen and our guests. 🙌

A special thank you to Pastor Martin for helping bring this wonderful group back to URM. We’re so grateful to every volunteer from Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church for giving your time, energy, and heart to serve our community.

Welcome back—we hope to see you again soon! ❤️
