Fall is the better window for trees and shrubs. Cooler temperatures mean less heat stress, so roots get a head start before next summer shows up.

Three things before you dig. Pick plants suited to the space you actually have. Check your drainage. Never bury the trunk too deep.

A good start beats trying to rescue the wrong plant six months later.

Earnest money. Escrow. Closing costs.

These three terms trip up a lot of first-time buyers. Here is the short version.

Earnest money is a deposit that shows the seller you are serious. It usually goes toward your purchase.

Escrow is the neutral third party that holds the money and paperwork until the sale is done.

Closing costs are the fees to finalize the loan and the sale, like title and lender fees. Your lender can walk you through the numbers for your loan.

Founders' Day is almost here, Queen Creek.

Saturday, September 19, from 5 to 9 PM at Frontier Family Park. Battle of the Badge relays, an FFA Zone with agricultural experiences, family activities, and local vendors.

I have lived here since 2008. Nights like this are why Queen Creek still feels like a hometown.

If you moved here from somewhere colder, fall probably meant pulling up the garden.

In Arizona's low desert, fall is when things get going. September and October open the door for lettuce, carrots, radishes, kale, spinach, and peas. Most of them can go in from seed right through December.

The trick is planting for our climate, not the calendar you grew up with.

New to Queen Creek and looking for an easy first hike? Start at San Tan Mountain Regional Park.

The park covers more than 10,000 acres of desert, and the trails run from easy to strenuous. Pick a mellow trail your first time out. Work up to the climbs later.

Two rules this time of year. Go early, before the heat builds. Bring more water than you think you need.

The valley views are worth the early alarm.

Your yard just made it through an Arizona summer. It earned a checkup.

Take ten minutes this Labor Day weekend and walk your drip system. Look for clogged emitters, broken lines, weeds hiding under plants, and mulch that has worn thin. Pull the mulch a few inches back from trunks and make sure water hits the root zone instead of pooling at the base.

Ten minutes now saves you a lot of headaches this fall.
