This is a hot button topicā¦
Itās the thing every single person messages me about when theyāre thinking about moving to Arizona.
āWill there even BE water in Arizona in 10 years?ā
This news matters if youāre considering a move here.
Arizona, California, and Nevada just reached a historic agreement to protect the Colorado River. Hereās what you actually need to know:
ā
The three states agreed to cut water use by 3.2+ million acre-feet through 2028
ā
Itās being called a ābridge,ā meaning immediate stability for Lake Mead and Lake Powell.
ā
40 million people rely on this river. This protects them AND the economies they support.
ā
California is taking the biggest cut (about 13%), while Arizona and Nevada continue their long history of conservation
ā
It replaces the harsher, lopsided cuts the federal government had previously aimed at Arizona
Hereās my honest take as someone raising my family here:
The fear about water keeps a LOT of people stuck. They love everything about Arizona, the sunshine, the lifestyle, the scenery, but they freeze on this one question.
What I love about this agreement is that it shows the people in charge arenāt waiting around for a crisis. Theyāre planning ahead, working together, and protecting the future of a state that 40 million of us depend on.
Arizona isnāt running out of water tomorrow. Weāre one of the most proactive states in the country when it comes to managing it.
Is this the only thing keeping you from making the move? Letās talk about it. The real answers are usually way less scary than the fears and the click-bait out there.
