Here are 5 questions that usually come up before the moving boxes do:
1️⃣ “What do people actually DO all summer?”
We live. We still go to work, take the kids to school and run errands. We just complain a lot more about getting into a hot car.
Summer usually means more indoor plans, pool time and weekend trips up north. Your outdoor routine changes as the heat grows more intense.
If you’re thinking about living here year-round, visit in the summer, too. February is very persuasive.
2️⃣ “How bad are the electric bills?”
I’d much rather look at a home’s actual bill history than throw out some random internet average.
Square footage, the age and efficiency of the AC, insulation and how cool you like to keep the house all make a difference. If possible, ask for 12 months of bills.
Someone else’s usage won’t be exactly the same as yours, but it’s still a better starting point than, “My cousin only pays $200.”
3️⃣ “Am I going to find scorpions in my house?”
It’s possible. I’m not going to promise you a scorpion-free ZIP code.
Ask about the home’s pest history, and have the property checked for entry points. Sealing gaps and dealing with hiding spots can make a difference.
4️⃣ “Is Arizona running out of water?”
It’s a serious issue, but the answer is more complicated than yes or no.
Phoenix gets water from multiple sources, including the Salt, Verde and Colorado rivers. That doesn’t mean shortages aren’t a concern, and the water situation can vary depending on where you live.
Find out who supplies the water to the actual home and what that provider says about its outlook.
5️⃣ “Where’s the BEST place to live?”
Best for whose Tuesday?
Your commute, budget, school needs and what you actually like doing on a regular evening matter a lot more than someone else’s favorite suburb.
