📢 Sports Facility Milestone West Milford’s Commitment Pays Off!
When I said we were kicking off the week with great news! We meant it :)

For quite some time actually for the past at least 20 years, many in our community have voiced frustration and drawn comparisons to other towns, questioning when West Milford would see progress in recreation facilities. What’s often overlooked is the set of real, complex challenges we’ve faced, especially under the Highlands Act. But West Milford is unique and where there’s a will, there’s a way. And we found it.

🎉 The Mayor and Council are proud to officially announce Phase 1 of a brand-new sports complex located at Dygos Field behind Macopin School, featuring:

✅ Two multi-purpose fields

✅ One baseball field

✅ One softball field

✅ And yes! Lights for evening practices & games!

📸 Check out the rendering of this exciting new complex, which is targeting an opening in Spring 2026!

💡 This is Phase 1. The extended vision includes a park/playground and additional parking to further enhance the space, hopefully in the near future, as planning continues and application for grant funds are submitted.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the Board of Education members and administration, whose collaboration was essential. Under the Highlands Act, the BOE qualifies for exemptions that the Township does not—so before the questions, assumptions, or speculation start: If this could have been built on other Township-owned land, don’t you think we would have?

Sincere appreciation also goes to our Mayor’s Advisory Committee volunteers, and our Recreation Director, Dan Kochakji, for their unwavering commitment and collaboration every step of the way.

💬 Someone once told me, "I’ll believe it when I see it." Well… here it is, and soon, we’ll all see it in action.

It took time. It required patience, planning, and persistence. But today, West Milford stands at a moment of real achievement, with a facility that reflects our dedication to youth, recreation, and forward progress.

We move ahead with truth, teamwork, and pride. 🖤💛
