VCPORA “This 1845 Greek Revival cottage had a severely altered facade after 20th-century modifications made by the Discalced Carmelite nuns, who lived in the larger Carmelite Monastery complex on N. Rampart St. 2019-2023 saw extensive renovations and restoration of the five bay center-hall cottage which predated the monastery. Original millwork was intact on the interior, and original masonry was carefully excavated to produce an exceptional restoration of the facade!

This structure’s historic significance is further supported by the fact that it was built by Manuel Julian de Lizardi, of a prominent Mexican family in the city (one of very few) who had helped establish trade routes between New Orleans, Mexico and Cuba.“
