▶ Mortgage rates have climbed back to around 6.77%, continuing to impact buyer affordability
▶ Persistent inflation remains above target levels, keeping pressure on mortgage rates
▶ Bay Area inflation has risen again as local housing appreciation resumes
▶ National employment slowed in July, signaling a cooling economy
▶ Bay Area job growth has contracted for four consecutive months
▶ Unemployment remains relatively low, creating a “low hire, low fire” economy with limited signs of housing distress

Despite higher borrowing costs and slower job growth, low unemployment and limited distressed inventory continue to provide stability for the housing market. As we move through August, mortgage rates, inflation, affordability, and local employment will remain key trends to watch.
