Lubbock ISD and Texas Tech K12 Launch Tuition Free Virtual School Option

Lubbock ISD is opening a new virtual learning program through Texas Tech K12 for eligible students who need a full time online option. LISD LIVE will use asynchronous coursework taught by certified instructors while offering round the clock tutoring, district counseling and technology support. Applicants must live in Texas, read on grade level, have dependable high speed internet and have an adult available to support learning at home. Applications close August 10, classes begin August 12 and enrollment is limited. Elementary students will remain connected to either Honey or Whiteside Elementary, while secondary students may be able to participate in certain UIL and career programs if they meet requirements and provide transportation. The district says the program is intended for students who can succeed with independent work while remaining connected to local school services.

Lubbock Watering Rules Take On New Importance As Triple Digit Heat Returns

Seasonal watering restrictions remain important across Lubbock as temperatures rise above 100 degrees and demand on the city’s water system increases. Residents should follow their assigned irrigation schedules and avoid watering during periods when heat and wind cause rapid evaporation. Sprinklers should not be allowed to send water across sidewalks, driveways or streets, where it provides no benefit to lawns and can create slick areas for pedestrians. Property owners should also check systems for broken heads, hidden leaks and incorrectly aimed spray patterns. A single damaged sprinkler can waste a significant amount of water before the problem becomes visible. Lubbock Invited to Turn a Day of Fun Into Hope for Local Foster Youth

LUBBOCK, Texas — What if spending your Saturday with family and friends could also help change a child’s life?

That’s the idea behind Threads of Hope, a community event taking place Saturday, July 25, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Beer Gardens, 2202 Buddy Holly Avenue. Hosted by Guardian Angels, the event aims to bring the Lubbock community together while raising support for local foster youth.

Organizers say 100 percent of donations will benefit children in the local foster care system, helping provide resources and opportunities for youth who often face difficult circumstances.

The event offers something for nearly everyone. Families can enjoy bounce houses, water slides, live music, games, food trucks, shopping with local vendors, and a mechanical bull. Multiple activity areas will allow guests to explore, relax, and spend time together throughout the afternoon and evening.

For adults, a beer garden will also be available, with organizers noting that entrances to the bar area will be monitored to help maintain a safe, family friendly atmosphere for all attendees.

Beyond the entertainment, Threads of Hope is centered on one mission: reminding foster children that their community cares. Every person who attends, every vendor who participates, and every donation made helps support that mission.

Even those who are unable to attend in person can still make an impact. The event includes a donation option through a QR code, allowing supporters to contribute directly to the cause from anywhere.

Organizers hope the event becomes more than just another stop on the weekend calendar. They hope it becomes a reminder that when a community comes together, it can make a lasting difference in the lives of children who need hope the most.
