Business Philosophy

INTERESTS & BUSINESS PHILOSOPHY

Competitive Running:

Mae Parrish is passionate about health and fitness so several years ago, because she loves the outdoors and being active, she began running. After years of running for relaxation and to stay in shape, she decided to train for and run a marathon. How does that affect her business philosophy? Competitive running requires training and discipline to stay the course. That's what she does...stay the course... when she's working for her seller or buyer clients to be sure a seller sells a house for the highest price in the shortest time and to be sure a buyer finds "home"!! Broadcasting & Media:

A personal goal was reached when Mae hosted a radio talk show, "Real Estate Radio". The program aired on WKRS 1220 AM in Waukegan, Illinois. Just as her work as a Realtor, the focus of the program was to help those who wanted to get the most from their buying or selling experience. Mae's had the opportunity to talk to many local experts in the real estate industry which has added greatly to her own knowledge and understanding of the Lake county market. Her list of professionals and contacts has also grown which she can share with customers. Lake County Television (LCTV) has called on Mae's expertise for updates on the current real estate market. She was a guest on "Doing Good Deeds" in January 2010. The program discussed the real estate market including advice to home buyers and sellers and still airs on local TV. Areas of Expertise

TODAY'S LIFESTYLES

As a contemporary business woman, Mae keeps up with trends in and out of real estate. She knows what appeals to 30-something buyers/sellers as well as 50-something buyers/sellers. What that means to you is she has relationships with a wide span of age groups. Those relationships with working moms, business owners, career women and retirees helps her relate to today's lifestyles. SENIORS

Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) is a designation Mae earned after completing a course that taught how to serve the 50+ community. As a Baby Boomer, she understands there are special concerns for "down-sizers" and retirees when it comes to home selling and home buying. "Because I have an understanding of these needs, I am better equipped to help. The fact that both my parents have had to move recently helps me grasp the challenges of moving from your home." RELOCATION

Trained as a relocation expert, Mae has spent hours learning how to serve corporate transferees who undertake major cross-country or international moves. The relocation department of Coldwell Banker calls on Mae to help customers who are buying or selling their homes. With patience and tenacity, Mae helps her clients find the right community to move into or helps them find buyers for their homes. Personal Background

SALES SKILLS HONED IN TV & RADIO

Born and raised on Chicago's southside, Mae attended college at the University of Illinois then moved to Texas to be a TV news reporter. After several years of reporting she began producing TV programs, working in both Los Angeles and Chicago for CBS. The rewards of sales appealed to Mae so for several years she worked in media sales where she learned competitiveness and negotiating in the fast-paced, high stakes fields of TV and Radio. Eventually, Mae realized she wanted to walk in her grandmother's footsteps so moved into real estate sales. Mae has worked as a Realtor since 1998. and loves her work, "TV and Radio sales were fun but the "burn out" factor was pretty high so I opted for real estate sales where I could make a contribution to people's lives at a much slower pace." She and her husband are real estate entrepreneurs, buying, rehabbing and renting small properties. Community Involvement

Local and International Service

As a member of the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club since 2007, Mae is an active volunteer. "We raise money for over two dozen not-for-profit groups in Lake county and have the opportunity to lend a hand to those who need help in other parts of the world". Rotary International is an organization that reaches into communities through its thousands of clubs and clubmembers. As an example of the work they do, Rotary was among the first to respond following the earthquake in Haiti, providing temporary housing for thousands. They also were instrumental in helping the flood victims in New Orleans. Part of Mae's commissions are given to Rotary annually. Awards And Designations

Training:

Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) is a designation I earned after completing a course that taught me how best to service adults 50+ as well as older adults. There are special concerns "downsizers" and for retirees have when it comes to home selling and home buying. Because I been trained to recognize these needs and know how to address them, I am better equipped to serve these buyers and sellers. Graduate Real Estate Institute (GRI) is a designation it took years to earn. As my knowledge of the real estate industry grew, I attended one class each year for the first 3 years of my career to supplement practical knowledge. I learned everything from how a house is built (from the ground up) to how a buyer thinks and feels when making that first important purchase.

The right rug can completely transform a space—adding warmth, texture, and style! Here’s how to pick the perfect one for your home:

📏 Get the Right Fit – Ensure your rug complements your space! In living rooms, it should fit under the front legs of your furniture. In dining areas, extend at least 24 inches beyond the table.
🎨 Color & Pattern – Choose neutral tones for a timeless look or bold patterns to make a statement. Darker hues hide stains, while lighter shades brighten a room.
🧵 Material Matters – Wool is durable and soft, jute adds natural texture, and synthetic blends are great for high-traffic areas.
🏡 Shape & Placement – A round rug softens small spaces, while a rectangular rug helps define larger rooms.

Which style of rug do you love most? Drop your fave below! ⬇️

For many first-time buyers, the biggest surprise isn’t the house hunt itself—it’s the hidden costs of homeownership. 🏡💸

Beyond the mortgage, there are things like:
🔑 Closing costs
🔧 Maintenance & repairs
💡 Utilities & property taxes

It all adds up quicker than most expect. Planning ahead for these expenses can make the transition to homeownership much smoother—and a lot less stressful.

What surprised you the most about buying your first home?

Thinking of buying or selling without an agent?
Here are 6 reasons why that could cost you—big time. ⬇️

1️⃣ Pricing Expertise – Agents know how to price your home right (not just based on internet searches).
2️⃣ Market Knowledge – From neighborhoods to interest rate trends, they have the inside scoop.
3️⃣ Skilled Negotiator – You want someone who can fight for your best deal, whether you’re buying or selling.
4️⃣ Handles the Paperwork – Contracts, disclosures, timelines… it’s a lot. A good agent keeps everything on track.
5️⃣ Access to Off-Market Listings – Some of the best homes never hit public sites. Agents know where to look.
6️⃣ Avoid Costly Mistakes – One wrong step could delay your closing or cost thousands—an agent helps you avoid that.
