🌪️🏠 Storm Damage? Read This Before Filing an Insurance Claim!
If your home was impacted by the recent storm, take a few important steps before calling your insurance company:
✅ Document Everything
Take plenty of photos and videos of any damage from multiple angles. Capture damaged roofs, fences, vehicles, siding, trees, and any water intrusion inside the home.
✅ Prevent Further Damage
If it’s safe to do so, place tarps over roof leaks, remove standing water, or take other temporary measures to prevent additional damage. Save all receipts for materials and emergency repairs.
✅ Make a Detailed List
Write down everything that was damaged, including approximate ages and values of personal belongings if applicable.
✅ Contact a Reputable Contractor
Have a trusted professional assess the damage. Sometimes what appears to be major damage may be minor, and vice versa. An expert opinion can help you make an informed decision before filing a claim.
✅ Review Your Deductible
Know what your deductible is before filing. If repairs are close to or below your deductible amount, it may not make sense to file a claim.
🚫 Don’t Rush Into Signing Contracts
Be cautious of storm chasers and door-to-door contractors promising quick fixes. Always verify licenses, insurance, and local references.
Most importantly, stay safe. Storm damage can be stressful, but taking a few extra steps upfront can make the claims process much smoother.
