🚨 EAST STUART IS NOW IN THE FEDERAL PUBLIC COMMENT STAGE

The proposed East Stuart Historic District is now under final review by the National Park Service.

This is a major step toward having East Stuart officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Residents, former residents, churches, families, historians, and property owners can submit comments explaining why East Stuart is historically important.

Comments may include:

• Family and neighborhood history
• Historic churches, homes, and businesses
• Oral histories and photographs
• Buildings or areas that may have been overlooked
• Concerns about whether the current boundary tells the full story

The current nomination map is not necessarily the final definition of historic East Stuart.

After listing, the district boundary can be amended or expanded if additional research, historic evidence, or professional review shows that important properties or areas were excluded.

That means the community should begin documenting the historic MLK corridor, churches, homes, businesses, and neighborhood sites outside the current boundary now.

The goal is clear:

Support the nomination. Strengthen the historical record. Prepare to correct the map where the evidence supports it.

East Stuart’s history is bigger than one survey and bigger than one set of lines on a map.

Federal recognition is the foundation—not the finish line.
