Well, well, well....you learn something new every day. This is what the inside of your dryer vent looks like. It can cause less efficient dryers or a dryer failure altogether, higher gas or electric bills, and worst case scenario, can burn your house down.

And who knew you should clean it every 12-18 mths?

Hired a great company to clean it since its a little tougher access. They confirmed everything in order after they made a couple other tweaks to my setup.

So if your dryer fails or quits heating, try cleaning your vent line first!!! Luckily I had a great dryer repairman who fixed the burned out ignitor and a fuse switch (or something) and came back at no cost when the dryer immediately failed again. He cleaned a large amount of lint out of the flex vent but suggested I have it professionally cleaned and left it unhooked to the vent line - he knew it would burn out again if I ran it!

Dryer Vent Wizard came out 2 days later and did their thing. After removing enough lint to build a large lint-cat - we are back in business.

So today's lesson: clean your dryer vent line! Annually!
